About the Junior Opera Guild
The Junior Opera Guild combines social and educational activities in its efforts to encourage the civic, cultural, and organizational responsibilities of its young members. The members raise funds to support opera educational programs; they attend meetings and learn the importance of working as a group, handling a budget, and more. The members also usher at various professional opera performances in Miami.
Activities & Fundraising
All JOG members are required to attend at least four of the monthly group meetings, including some which are exciting social events, the Opera Preview, the end of year Brunch and the Family Holiday Party. In addition, the members produce a fall fundraiser/project, volunteer at YPO’s Girl Scout Workshop and the Voice Competition and participate in their annual spring fundraiser.
For many years, JOG has made several significant contributions to support YPO’s Opera Funtime, In-School Opera, and Voice Competition, as well as to the Young Artist Studio/Florida Grand Opera Ensemble and the University of Miami opera program.
Membership & Eligibility
YPO members advise and oversee the JOG, yet Junior Opera Guild members are responsible for electing officers and planning and executing the arrangements for their activities. Membership is open to all interested young men and women in grades 9 – 12.
