Junior Opera Guild
The Junior Opera Guild is a community service organization created in 1968 by the Young Patronesses of the Opera for the purpose of stimulating knowledge and appreciation of opera by high school students.
JOG combines social and educational activities in its efforts to encourage the civic, cultural and organizational responsibility of its members. Members come from private and public schools, and are in grades 9-12.
As ushers, JOG members help and hand out programs at the Opera productions given by the Florida Grand Opera in the Adrienne Arscht Center for the Performing Arts. Junior Opera Guild members are encouraged to stay and watch the performances after they usher.
Through the annual Fashion Show, Garage Sale, and other special fundraisers, JOG supports its own activities and contributes toward the expenses of a number of YPO educational programs such as the “In-School Opera”, the “Girl Scout Workshop”, the Opera Funtimes, The Young Artists’ series sponsored by the Florida Grand Opera, and the Voice Competition sponsored by the Young Patronesses of the Opera.
